Athens is located in Clarke County and is 60 miles northeast of Atlanta. The area is accessible by Georgia 316, which connects to Interstate 285 and Georgia 78. Known for being home to the University of Georgia, the city boasts just over 100,000 residents, approximately one-third of which are students.

The school offers 19 Baccalaureate degrees in more than 150 fields and 30 Master's degrees in 128 fields. Senior residents age 62 or older can take advantage of tuition-free courses.
Students in grades K-12 will attend schools in the Clarke County School District. The district has an impressive reputation and many of the students have received honors for excelling in both academics and athletics. Private schools are also convenient to the area, and several colleges and universities are nearby.
Athens has several neighborhoods listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area features antebellum, Victorian, and other period homes, many of which are within walking distance of the university. More contemporary styles are also available including must-see, exquisite new construction. Prospective homebuyers will be impressed with the vast acreage available and many will enjoy lake views and tons of amenities.
