Covington Real Estate

Covington is located in Newton County off of Interstate 20. Established in 1822, The City of Covington has a rich cultural heritage and is blazing a trail of progress that will ensure a bright future for its residents.

Covington has been known as the Hollywood of the South due to the number of movies and television shows filmed there. In the Heat of the Night , a long running television show, spent its eight years in Covington while filming. Covington is a beautiful Georgia town, which is perhaps the reason that it appears in several television shows and films. If you've seen the Dukes of Hazard, you've probably already caught a glimpse of Covington and the magnificent homes and public buildings that have been constructed in the area. Tours are available throughout the year including the Annual Tour of Homes. A full tour of homes is held the first Saturday in October as part of Autumn Weekend in Covington. This tour is sponsored by the Newton County Historical Society.

Like many Georgia towns, Covington's downtown area is a historical area. Visitors will find restored 19th century structures along the city's state designated Main Street. The vibrant area's homes, churches, parks and the downtown Square are the center of the community and great shopping and dining choices are available. The community often comes together in the Square for festivities and a variety of events.

Nearby there are more shopping districts located throughout the county. A variety of retail establishments can be found along Highway 278, the main thoroughfare, including national chains. There are many recreational activities to enjoy in the surrounding areas as well, thanks to its rich, natural landscape. Residents enjoy area lakes, rivers and hiking trails. Golfing is also a popular pastime.

Students in the area will attend Newton County Schools. The system is comprised of 20 schools and has grown considerably in recent years. Newton County students are recognized at the state and national level for excellence in academics, athletics, the arts and extra-curricular activities. All schools offer a wide array of programs, including services for both academically gifted students and students with disabilities. The average SAT score has topped the state and national average for the past four years while the dropout rate has been reduced to well below the state average. Additionally, the area is convenient to a number of private schools for grades K-12 as well as several competitive colleges and universities.

You'll find both contemporary and traditional homes in this thriving Newton County community. Residents will enjoy acreage and homes with spacious floor plans in friendly, inviting neighborhoods. If you're looking for quality craftsmanship at affordable prices, Covington is a great choice. Established homes in the area start in the low $100s while new construction starts in the $160s.
