Cumming is the only incorporated municipality in Forsyth County. The town was incorporated 1834 and was named in honor of Col. William Cumming, a distinguished officer in the War of 1812. Located off of Georgia 400, the city is just 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta. Residents enjoy the convenience of being accessible to ballgames, plays and events in the city and yet still remain close to the rural feel of nearby Georgia mountains and lakes.
