Gainesville Real Estate

Gainesville is nestled in Hall County and is located near Lake Lanier and the Blue Ridge Mountains. This charming town, chartered in 1821, is a beautiful place to call home. Over 30,000 residents live in Gainesville, fondly nicknamed the Chicken Capital of the World due to the area's large number of poultry processing plants. Located about an hour away from Atlanta, the area is accessible by Interstate 85 and Interstate 985.

There's a lot to see and do in Gainesville. Like many Georgia towns, Gainesville's downtown area has been revitalized thanks to their Main Street program. Downtown Gainesville now features gift shops, antiques and excellent dining for residents and visitors. Nearby Colonial Lakeshore Mall features major department stores as well as an abundance of specialty stores, services and restaurants. The mall also features one of the few handcrafted Venetian carousels on the Southeast.

Gainesville's Parks and Recreation Department provides a host of activities for residents to enjoy. Athletics programs for both adults and youth are popular. The department also offers exercise, wellness programs and special events. The city of Gainesville coordinates several special community events throughout the year including the Memorial Day Parade, Blue Sky Concerts and the Annual Art in the Square Juried Art Show.

Students in the area will attend Gainesville City Schools and schools in the Hall County School System. Gainesville High School was one of 10 schools nationwide to earn recognition as a National School of Character Promising Practices. The award honors schools that succeed in academics as well as fostering an atmosphere that stresses community service, citizenship, civic pride and ethical and moral leadership. Gainesville is also convenient to several private schools and notable colleges and universities are just a short commute away.

Prospective homebuyers shopping in the Gainesville area will find beautiful traditional homes on large lots. There are lots of active listings in golf and swim and tennis communities, and many homes have lake views. Charming homes in established neighborhoods are available from the low $100s while exquisite new construction starts in the $160s.
